How did it start Aodhan….
My career with DCC started in September 2020 on the group’s graduate programme, joining DCC Vital in the midst of a pandemic, lockdown restrictions and living in a new city. I worked with the Strategy and Development Director on mergers and acquisitions, which allowed me to learn about the healthcare industry and different product markets whilst also getting commercial experience of the end-to-end process of an acquisition (important for anyone joining the DCC group).
How’s it going now Aodhan…
After a year spent back in the UK with Exertis in the group’s Technology Division in Basingstoke, working in the Channel marketing team and on people projects, I am now working at SP Services in Telford as a Procurement Manager. SP is very different to the other businesses I have worked in, mainly serving the emergency and pre-hospital care sector, it has been so interesting to learn about and get my teeth stuck into the business. I have had the opportunity to work on several projects with both a commercial and process improvement focus, whilst also being involved in the day-to-day running of the procurement department. I’ve recently participated in the Management Fundamentals Programme, part of Accelerate Vital, focused on developing and enhancing my management skills with a particular focus on giving feedback and 1:1 meetings.
Finally, what does the future look like Aodhan….
In the future I would like to gain a lot more commercial experience, particularly in other areas of the business such as Business Development or Category Management. Getting exposure to these other areas of the business will give me a more rounded understanding of the way our businesses make money, whilst also giving me access to the experience of the people working across the group. Learning from them and gaining new skills will hopefully allow me to acquire the knowledge required to progress further within the business, with the opportunity to move around as much as I can.
