To help drive this level of transformation needed across the organisation, and to ensure that the SAP solution is embedded and optimised, the role of SAP ABAP Developer has been created to support, enhance and optimise the SAP solution and provide effective BAU Service Management across the platform. This role will work closely with the Senior SAP Application Support Manager; Business Transformation Team; Global Process Owners and the wider Technology Team in the development of the SAP Functional footprint and the associated governance forums to support it.


This is a role reporting to the Senior SAP Technical Analyst. The role will play a key role in delivering the optimisation of application functionality and technology within Exertis UK IT.


Role objectives

  • Provide development expertise, guidance, presentations, and leadership on leveraging the capabilities of SAP to business stakeholders.
  • Continual evaluation of new SAP technology which could be of potential use to exertis
  • Deliver configuration enhancements from design to solution.
  • Support Incident and Request process ensuring calls are resolved in an appropriate time according to their priority (Incident, Change and Problem).
  • Manage incident, request, change and problem resolution (root-cause analysis, problem statements)
  • Deliver maintenance releases (defect fixes).
  • Able to investigate issues from a technical perspective using trace/debugging tools to identify root cause for problems and subsequently fix the underlying issues.
  • Monitor key SAP business processes to ensure they are being followed and where improvement is needed, collaboratively introducing appropriate activities with the Global Process Owner to drive adoption.
  • Day to Day BAU SAP support and troubleshooting across the implemented SAP systems (Working closely with the Business, Technology and Project teams where necessary).


Knowledge, skills and experience

  • In-depth SAP ABAP Development experience
  • Broad knowledge across one or more core SAP modules: SAP FICO, SAP SD, SAP MM, SAP EWM.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
  • Strong object orientation experience
  • Experience of using interface tools ALE, EDI, IDOC, RFC, BAPI
  • Experience of utilising a range of both SAP Analysis and SAP reporting tools
  • The ability to explain technical problems in non-technical language


Communication and working relationships

Effective communication skills and the ability to build strong working relationships are vital to this role as daily interaction with both team members and senior business stakeholders will be required
