Overview

We are seeking a highly capable Financial Controller to lead the finance function for the Uk Primary Care group. This is a critical leadership role during a transformative period for the business, as we implement automation and process improvements across finance and operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Finance Leadership: Manage the overall finance function for both companies, ensuring the timely and accurate preparation of financial statements, while maintaining robust financial controls at all times.
  • Transformation & Automation: Lead the implementation of process automation across finance and operational areas, including the introduction of Robotic Process Automation (RPA), reducing reliance on transactional roles while maintaining strong controls.
  • Compliance: Ensure full compliance with all HMRC regulatory requirements, including VAT, Corporation Tax, and payroll-related taxes. Monitor and manage the timely filing of tax returns and ensure adherence to UK tax laws and regulations.
  • Financial Control Environment: Oversee the maintenance of a strong financial control framework to safeguard the company’s financial position. This includes managing the risks associated with stock, cash, debtors, and tangible assets, and implementing procedures to mitigate potential financial exposure.
  • Systems & Processes: Lead improvements to financial systems, with a focus on SAP integration, ensuring systems are optimised for automation and internal controls. Collaborate closely with IT and operations teams to align finance systems with business strategy.
  • Financial Reporting: Prepare and oversee monthly management accounts, annual statutory accounts, and ensure all reporting is in compliance with UK GAAP and relevant tax regulations.
  • Cashflow Management: Lead cashflow forecasting, manage treasury operations, and ensure effective cash management to support operational needs while maintaining financial stability.
  • Business Partnering: Work closely with business leaders to provide strategic financial insights, guiding decision-making and business growth while controlling costs.
  • Team Management: Lead, mentor, and develop the finance team, promoting a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and excellence within the finance function.
  • Budgeting & Forecasting: Manage and coordinate the budgeting and forecasting processes, providing detailed financial analysis and recommendations to senior management.
  • Modelling & Analysis: Utilise advanced Excel and financial modelling skills to support business cases, financial planning, and scenario analysis to aid in strategic decision-making.

Ideal Candidate Profile

  • Fully qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA)
  • Extensive experience in a Financial Controller or Senior Finance Manager role, ideally within a fast-paced SME or mid-sized business
  • Proven experience in leading finance transformation and automation initiatives, particularly in the implementation of RPA and process streamlining
  • Strong knowledge and hands-on experience with HMRC compliance, including VAT, Corporation Tax, and payroll taxes
  • In-depth understanding of financial controls, including the management of stock, cash, debtors, and tangible assets to mitigate financial risk
  • SAP experience is highly desirable
  • Excellent financial modelling and Excel skills, with the ability to deliver accurate financial analysis and insights
  • Strong business partnering skills, with the ability to engage senior stakeholders and support business decisions
  • A proactive and hands-on approach, with excellent problem-solving abilities and the ability to work in a change-oriented environment
