Purpose of the Role

Reporting to the General Manager, the Operations Manager will be responsible for leading all operational activity within the Cumbernauld facility. Through excellent supply chain execution, this role forms an integral part of the total business plan and contributes to the overall achievement of business strategy, financial targets and legislative compliance.

 

You will contribute to this by monitoring and controlling all activities within the distribution operation to ensure these are carried out accurately and in line with agreed financial, service and QHSE targets. You will take responsibility for contributing to the budget process, engaging with the workforce to deliver continuous improvement initiatives and, when required, delivering step change to the cost base and capabilities of the Cumbernauld logistics operation.

 

Main Duties and Responsibilities

Ensuring effective operation of the Distribution Operation by:

  • Support the General Manager to create the annual budget for the facility.  Translating the budget into relevant targets and KPI’s for local teams and monitoring progress throughout the year
  • Working with other departments (Commercial, Customer Service & Finance) to ensure TPS Cumbernauld achieve budget and exceed customer expectations 
  • Create a continuous improvement culture to support productivity initiatives
  • Work closely with customers to resolve queries and deliver improvements across all distribution activities
  • Working closely with the procurement and inventory teams to optimise the inventory held on site and maximise stock accuracy through a robust, auditable process control.
  • Measure the performance of suppliers & external transport providers to improve the quality of the extended supply chain
  • Implement an organisation structure that is in line with the principle of flat structures, accountable work teams and lean support structures
  • Evaluate and introduce logistics systems and infrastructure to support and improve productivity
  • Recruit and retain high calibre employees for key roles

Ensuring ongoing engagement of employees across the Supply Chain by:

  • Ensuring that all teams members are regularly communicated via employee forums
  • Creating a positive working environment by acting in ways that support/enhance morale and developing a culture of praise, recognition, and reward.
  • In conjunction with the HR business partner, being accountable for HR related matters within the facility. Ensuring rules and standards are consistently applied, including discipline and performance management
  • Individual coaching to grow your team’s capabilities and create a continuous improvement culture

Ensuring DCC Vital Quality, Health & Safety and Environmental standards are being met by:

  • Ensuring the company safety, quality and environmental systems are being adhered to and that agreed continuous improvement targets are being achieved
  • Ensuring non-conformance data is recorded so that corrective action can be implemented (including the update of CCP’s and/or SOPs as appropriate) and that issues are escalated in a timely manner
  • Ensuring that team leaders are competent to carry out their roles, including risk assessments, staff training and accident/incident investigations

  • Delivery of operational efficiency and costs in line with the agreed budget
  • Picking & stock accuracy
  • On time and in full delivery service to end users
  • Adherence to QHSE policies & targets

 

 

Qualifications, Skills and Experience

The ideal candidate will be educated to degree level (or equivalent).  Candidates must have the right to work in the UK and the EU, and should hold a UK SC clearance or prepared to be security cleared if required.  Candidates must hold a full, clean driving licence.

 

Essential:

  • A minimum of 5 years of management/leadership experience in a comparable logistics role
  • Results driven with a strong track record of delivering operational change and supply chain improvements
  • Highly motivated with the required skills to lead and organisation and achieve results through others
  • Transport management experience / CPC qualification
  • Broader financial skills and commercial acumen to contribute to budgeting and business planning activities  
  • Excellent communication and coaching skills

 

Desirable:

  • Knowledge of the healthcare market, including suppliers, hospitals and relevant public sector organisations
  • Experience of using SAP
  • Commercial experience working in a provider of logistics solutions
  • Broader leadership and strategy development experience
