JOB PURPOSE

The job holder shall support the National Health, Safety, Security & Environment Manager in the development and implementation of the Flogas Britain strategy to deliver effective HSE management systems for safe operations and grow our positive safety culture, through:
• Providing health, safety, security and environmental guidance and support to senior management and colleagues at all levels within your region on Flogas Britain business activities covering a range of operations from Distribution to Production & Manufacturing.
• Act as a point of contact for HSE matters, collaborating closely with local teams to foster a collaborative approach to safety and sustainability. Provide leadership with insights and recommendations on HSE performance, leveraging subject matter expertise across the business to      drive continuous improvement and mitigate risks effectively.
• Ensure a safe and environmentally responsible workplace by supporting business functions on health, safety, and environmental (HSE) initiatives, ensuring alignment with external standards while considering local challenges and cultural change adaptability.
• Ensuring all working arrangements meet appropriate HSE standards and drive consistency and demonstration of a positive safety culture through visible leadership.

 

ACCOUNTABILITIES

Delivery of the HSE strategy through:
• Serve as the primary point of contact for regional HSE matters, forging strong partnerships with internal stakeholders, operational leaders, regulatory agencies, and external partners to facilitate collaboration and knowledge-sharing, ultimately minimising operational losses, health      concerns, and safety incidents.
• Lead the implementation and monitoring of critical systems vital to the safe, responsible, and efficient operation of our business, ensuring compliance with statutory, industry, and company standards.
• Execute our company's H&S strategy at a local level, leveraging a variety of interventions such as tailored in-house training and heightened awareness campaigns to mitigate risks and enhance safety practices. Version 1
• Take leadership in facilitating and conducting occupational health and safety risk assessments, offering operational guidance to line managers on risk reduction and the implementation of effective control measures in alignment with the hierarchy of controls.
• Actively promote a positive safety culture within regional teams, encouraging active participation, engagement, and ownership of HSEQ responsibilities at all levels of the organisation.
• Observe work practices and provide vital guidance, coaching, and advice to operational leaders, empowering them to cultivate positive health and safety behaviours and nurture a psychologically safe work environment.
• Drive accountability for exceptional HSEQ performance across all facets of our operations, equipping line management with the support and expertise needed to conduct thorough incident investigations and reporting.
• Advise and collaborate with line management on the implementation of procedural standards and HSEQ processes, driving continuous improvement in safety behaviours and processes across operational team.
• Provide support and guidance to ensure full legislative and internal policy compliance, safeguarding our commitment to safety excellence in all operations.
• Conduct or commission occupational H&S surveys and implement associated recommendations, while also developing feedback mechanisms to track and showcase progress against our HSE strategy.
• Provide specialist support and mentorship to colleagues within the HSEQ Team, fostering their growth and development to enhance overall team capacity and capability.

 

JOB HOLDER REQUIREMENTS

Essential:
• Knowledge and understanding of HSE related legislation and standards.
• Experience of delivering improved HSE performance particularly through supporting our operational managers and supervisors with investigation of HSE incidents and near misses, to identifying root causes and establish corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
• Possess strong interpersonal and communication skills, and able to effectively interact and influence with our colleagues at all levels of the organisation. Proven track record of coaching and delivering behavioural improvement within multi-sited operational HSE environment.
• Well-developed written and oral communication skills, and computer experience with database, spreadsheet, word processing and incident management software.
• Self-motivated, with the ability to work independently and without close supervision, whilst contributing to and supporting HSE team targets and organisational objectives. Version 1
• Able to accommodate flexible hours of working requiring regular travel and overnight time away from home.
• Full Driving Licence

 

Desirable:
• Suitable technical/professional qualifications e.g. NEBOSH Diploma / Certificate or IOSH membership.
• Educated to a higher level e.g. HND or an equivalent level.
• Knowledge of safety management systems and risk control tools.
• Knowledge of legislation, guidance and codes of practice relating to the storage and transportation of LPG.
• Knowledge of Fire Safety, Protection & Prevention mechanisms; Provision and use of Work Equipment, and a knowledge of Dangerous Substances and flammable atmospheres.
• Knowledge of process safety related legislation e.g. COMAH Regs.
• Previous experience within a distribution, dangerous goods or high hazard industry.
