Job Purpose

The principal function of the role is to oversee the Group’s consolidated balance sheet and P&L, ensuring smooth and efficient delivery of information to all internal and external stakeholders throughout the financial calendar from across all trading entities, and provide commercial insight to the management team.

Reporting to the Finance Director, the individual in this role will lead the Group’s central accounting function, managing the appropriate audit processes and take ownership of the tax and technical accounting matters of the Group. The role is a key member of the senior management team, and will lead a team of ~9 colleagues, requiring the individual to consistently strive for improvements across all areas of financial planning and reporting, driving profitability and return on capital employed forward.

To be successful in this role, the individual must work closely with the other heads of Finance in order to understand the risks, challenges and opportunities across the department and the wider business, pro-actively supporting in driving improvements. The individual in this role will have the opportunity to deputise for the Finance Director when appropriate.
 

Accountabilities

•    Leading on all aspects of the management accounts and DCC plc group reporting timetable, providing insight and challenge on outputs
•    Managing and consolidating the results for the DCC formal reporting cycle, which includes: the annual budget, year-end statutory reporting, quarterly/weekly forecasting and three-year planning 
•    Leading the programme to develop best practice in our financial controls, processes, documentation and investment appraisal techniques across the Flogas group of companies
•    Leading the internal and external audit workstreams, ensuring smooth and accurate audits with minimal audit findings
•    Supporting with the group’s M&A strategy where possible, including the smooth onboarding and integration of new acquisitions 
•    Carrying out the role of Company Secretary for all group entities, ensuring compliance with the Companies Act and DCC group requirements
•    Providing accurate and timely financial and non-financial information linked to the group’s sustainability reporting
•    Improving management’s visibility and understanding of revenue and capital spend and its implications for profitability and return on capital employed
•    Moderation of capital spend proposals to ensure submissions to MD, FD and where necessary to DCC are consistent, fair and credible
•    Oversee the tax planning, returns and declarations for all of our obligations, including Corporation Tax, ONS, VAT, Excise, PSA and any other HMRC related requirements 
•    Ownership of the annual group insurance renewal programme and life assurance benefit scheme renewals
•    Leading by example and ensuring the continued development of direct reports through creation of PDPs and regular monitoring against these.
•    Coaching and developing other members of the finance team, including being the Training Manager for those in study agreements
•    To undertake any other analysis/projects as required by the Finance Director or other Senior Leader, including deputising for the FD.

KPI’s
•    Improvement in profitability and return on capital employed
•    Delivery of an efficient DCC reporting cycle through accurate and timely completion of budgets and forecasts
•    Completing audit and tax requirements accurately and on time, with minimal issues
•    Improving the efficiency of finance process, including the month end reporting timeline
•    Development of trainees and succession planning

Job Holder Requirements

•    Qualified accountant with at least 5 years PQE and relevant experience
•    Strong personal presence with interpersonal and communication skills to be able to engage at all levels, with the stature to quickly inspire the confidence and command respect of the leadership team and to work collaboratively and cohesively with the senior management team and divisional executives
•    Ability to develop mutually beneficial relationships with prospects, internal and external stakeholders
•    Strong Commercial awareness and business acumen with an ability to maintain professional scepticism
•    Ability to work autonomously, manage to tight timescales and prioritise effectively
•    Passion, energy and commitment with high personal integrity and a practical, pragmatic and hardworking presence with the flexibility and mobility required for the role.
