JOB PURPOSE

Flogas wishes to recruit a high calibre Asset Development Director to oversee the delivery of the portfolio of projects associated with the Avonmouth facility, and external stakeholder teams. The role will be responsible for the technical assurance, safety systems & standards, commercials and programme & risk management of the body of work.
This role has significant breadth in the energy industry that is on the cusp of a green revolution, and hence provides the successful candidate with the opportunity to grow and develop whilst demonstrating the ability to deliver exceptional business performance through great leadership, operational skills and experience.
It is a highly visible leadership role which means that the incumbent will travel to the Avonmouth location on a regular basis. It is anticipated that the successfully appointed candidate would need to attend the main Flogas office in Syston, Leicestershire for periodic meetings.
The role of Asset Development Director is a new role in the business and the successful candidate will have proven experience in driving complex energy infrastructure programmes and initiatives forward, having the ability to translate business strategy to technical execution, and be able to influence and manage stakeholders with complex and at times, conflicting priorities. The candidate will have the ability to communicate at all levels and be able to understand and optimise these relationships to the business’ advantage.
The role will report into the Chief Operating Officer and will develop and maintain key working relationships across the wider Senior Leadership Team, offering a high level of visibility and future succession opportunities for the right candidate.
Flogas is a people-based business, relevant candidates will need exceptional interpersonal skills to manage and influence multiple stakeholders across the organisation, whilst also being politically savvy to build and nurture good relationships with the relevant external stakeholders.

ACCOUNTABILITY

The role by its nature is varied and wide-ranging, it would be anticipated to cover as a minimum:
• Delivery of the portfolio of projects associated with the Avonmouth facility across the Flogas and external stakeholder teams.
• Enforce governance by ensuring regulatory compliance, industry safety standards, and environmental sustainability in technical engineering and operations teams.
• Responsible for technical assurance, safety standards, commercial, and programme and risk management.
• Shape and implement the strategic direction for the liquid fuel importation strategy aligned with Flogas business goals and other DCC Energy business offerings.
• Originate strategic projects and R&D efforts for innovative energy solutions associated with asset development, supply chain, and production optimisation.
• Evaluate emerging technological trends and their potential impact including renewable energy vectors and low-carbon transition fuels and their integration into the business.
• Collaborate with other SLT members to drive business growth.
• Represent the company in safety and technical forums, and industry events.
• Build and manage relationships between peers, contractors, and business partners, notably the HSE, the Owner Engineer team and Programme Managers.
• Responsible for the delivery of the allocated strategic projects to time, cost and quality ensuring full benefits realisation.
• Participating in setting the strategic direction of the business and supporting the Senior Leadership Team in the annual planning process.
• Be able to take a holistic view of the business and identify self-start opportunities to undertake internal improvement projects to enhance profitability and/or returns.

JOB HOLDER REQUIREMENTS

The Asset Development Director position is a senior leadership role. Suitable candidates will hold an advanced technical degree and be highly experienced in the energy industry. Ideally a distinguished member of an industry body or with professional membership, e.g. chartership engineer. Furthermore, they will have demonstrable leadership skills, a continuous improvement mindset and the necessary drive, passion and energy to make a tangible and sustained difference.
This will require:

Knowledge and experience:
• Extensive experience (15-20 years+) working in the energy industry including 5-10 years+ managing the development and optimisation assets.
• In depth understanding of the required safety standards and quality assurance requirements for a programme of this size and scale.
• Strong familiarity with emerging energy technologies and market trends in the liquid fuels and renewables sectors.
• Proven ability to deliver multi-faceted, complex projects and business solutions.
• Experience of operating at a senior level in a business of substantial scale (e.g. revenue above £250m, assets above £200m, PBIT above £25m and/or employees over 1,000) is essential, ideally within a plc or investor environment.
• Understanding of multi-site distribution businesses will be advantageous.

  Qualifications:
• Advanced technical degree (PhD or Masters) in relevant field (science, engineering).
• Internationally accredited certification or professional membership (chartership, PMP, other).
