Job Purpose

The Technical Business Analyst is a critical axis between the business and the technical IT function, and will use their experience analysing of business processes and IT systems to unlock the potential of the business. Gathering and interpreting requirements, producing process maps and contributing towards solution design are all key components of the role. The Technical Business Analyst will also produce and interpret datasets to provide insights for the business, and also provide troubleshooting support for key systems. The role holder will take a leading role in the selection, analysis and implementation of new systems, together with business intelligence strategy, in order to drive greater efficiency, insight and value into the business in line with its 3 year plan.


In addition to the above the role will be involved in collection, interpretation, and visualisation of data to deliver insights to the business, and to aid exploitation of opportunities and aiding business performance.



  • You will provide a critical interface between the business and the IT function by analysing and translating business requirements into technical specifications.
  • Identify options for potential solutions and assess them for both technical and business suitability.
  • Develop a knowledge of key business systems and processes to be able to provide analysis and support for the delivery of business projects.
  • Manage data-driven projects and actionable insights across the business to drive ,transformation and identify growth opportunities, and opportunities for increase efficiency, working with key business areas throughout.
  • Support in the design of new IT solutions and business operating models associated with project delivery
  • Spot opportunities to collaborate and work closely with other areas heavily involved in data analysis, insights and visualisations, including but not limited to Marketing and the Reporting team which is based around the Qlik Reporting platform.
  • Collaborate with others to develop tools, process, policies and reporting for data governance and master data management, working with internal and external suppliers to drive and improve data cleanliness of existing data.
  • Provide a technical level of application support, where able, to ensure that a small number of in-house applications continue to meet business needs
  • Utilise access to development and new technologies that will be available.


Job Holder Requirements

Technical Skills

  • Experience of undertaking business analysis, working collaboratively with business areas to create new processes. 
  • Experience of providing application support or business analysis services within an IT environment
  • Excellent communication skills, with an ability to communicate effectively with suppliers and technical staff on a technical level, and an ability to explain sophisticated complex clearly and in non technical language to the business
  • An ability to produce and interpret data and provide analytical insights.
  • Strong interest in learning new technologies, such as Azure, and Qlik
  • Some basic knowledge of Qlik, SQL, or Java an advantage
  • Experience and confidence with large datasets, with a clear understanding of customer master data management tools and principles

  Education / Experience:

  • Experience in a business facing IT or BI environment
  • Some basic knowledge of Qlik, SQL, or Java an advantage
  • Knowledge and understanding of Architectural concepts and frameworks such as TOGAF
  • Ability to query datasets using SQL or other tools
  • Demonstrable commitment to continuous professional development to maintain skills and relevance throughout career is important.
