Job Title:          Assistant Product Manager


Department:   Category Management


Reports to:      Category Manager                 


Purpose of the Job:

Product expert, supporting the development of product group strategies that underpin the overall Category strategy. Assist with execution of promotional activity to deliver customer and contribution growth including annual catalogue where the APM manages all product information held within product master file systems. Liaise with suppliers and category team to continuously improve the presentation of information. Act as first line of response for all product related queries.


Main Duties/Responsibilities and Knowledge/Skills Requirements


Product Expertise: Across all key categories, establish as the product expert within WMS


  • Ensure product information and images held centrally is accurate and customer friendly for each type of marketing channel
  • Liaise with suppliers and internal category team to assist sales with customer queries
  • Manage sales training from suppliers (annual programme to be managed and executed)

Category Management: Manage a small number of categories in order to drive performance


  • Monitor competitive set to ensure core range is competitively priced
  • Define price points in line with pricing structures & policies
  • Assist in developing and executing an annual plan to continuously improve merchandising & the customer experience
  • Product database maintained to ensure complete and accurate information is presented through all media
  • Ensure sales have sufficient product information to accurately promote product & are aware of statutory obligations e.g. CQC


Range: Own product maintenance across all relevant categories.


  • Create and maintain product categorisation and reporting
  • Integrity checks from relevant source for any new products
  • Identify and nominate alternative products and accessories and update all relevant systems where applicable
  • Continually review & improve content, liaising with Suppliers to obtain additional information
  • Monitor products on backorders  and suggest alternatives where possible


Catalogue and e-commerce: Key player in production of annual WMS catalogue and equivalent online experience


  • Aid in catalogue creation process using relevant process in ACMS system
  • Control amend process for catalogue creation internally and for supplier amends
  • Work with web team to ensure that online data reflects master file most recent information
  • Responsible for all product copy creation – tailored specifically for the media audience its targeting.


Reporting & Forecasting:  Ensure stakeholders have sufficient information to contribute to objectives


  • Assist promotional product forecasts
  • Monitor inventory to identify and reduce risk of aged stock
  • Prepare, review and distribute reports, commentary,  analysis and other performance data


Key Challenges


  • Ensuring complete product info set ready for catalogue production
  • Developing an understanding of the category management process
  • Assume a key figure within the promotional planning process particularly with the monthly brochure production
  • Ensure continued compliance with the terms of the companies regulatory requirements for pharmaceutical sales




  • A level of experience in a FMCG or Healthcare environment
  • Experience of working within a commercial environment
