Job Title:                         Product Manager

 

Department:                  Product Marketing

                            

Reports to:                     Category Manager                    

 

Purpose of the Job:

 

Product expert, developing product group strategies that underpin the overall Category strategy.  Develop and lead execution of promotional activity to deliver customer and contribution growth.  Develop and maintain product segmentation policies and that inform targeting of channel partnership with key suppliers 

 

Main Duties/Responsibilities and Knowledge/Skills Requirements

 

Drive Product Performance:

Develop product group strategies and activity plans that deliver company growth aspirations

 

Main Duties

 

•     Develop product group strategies to drive growth & achieve plan targets

•     Define annual objectives and needs for inclusion in the marketing plan

•     Develop and lead promotional campaigns

•     Deliver increase share of wallet in key product groups

•     Develop a deep understanding of on customer needs and wants by product group

•     Undertake regular product level analysis to identify issues and opportunities & promote findings to the Category team

•     Monitor competitive set to ensure core range is competitively priced

•     Define price points in line with pricing structures & policies

•     Maintain underlying GM% on existing volume

•     Develop and execute and annual plan to continuously improve merchandising & the customer experience

•     Product database maintained to ensure complete and accurate information is presented through all media

•     Ensure sales have sufficient product information to accurately promote product & are aware of statutory obligation

•     Own and maintain a supplier segmentation policy

•     Lead commercial dialog with key suppliers to establish WMS as the preferred primary care channel partner

•     Identify needs & coordinate Contact centre product training

 

Customer Insight:

  • Develop a deep understanding of customer needs to inform targeting of resources
  • Range
  • Create and continuously review a market leading range but optimise operating efficiencies through an effective segmentation process
  • Pricing & margin, continuously improve the competitiveness of the offer and ensure pricing is accurately presented in all systems

 

Merchandising:

  • Develop market leading merchandising standards
  • Supplier Relations:
  • Target effort and establish the company as the primary channel partner

 

Reporting & Forecasting: 

 

  • Ensure stakeholders have sufficient information to contribute to objectives

•     Prepare & submit timely promotional product forecasts

•     Monitor inventory to identify and reduce risk of aged stock

•     Prepare, review and distribute reports, commentary, analysis and other performance data

 

KEY CHALLENGES

 

•     Identifying drivers of growth and develop activity plans to capture opportunities

•     Developing a deep understanding of customer needs and wants & how these are targeted through existing communication channels

•     Maintaining an appropriate but efficient range

 

EXPERIENCE

Essential

•     Product / Category management experience in a FMCG & Healthcare environment

•     Experience of building and managing product range to drive success

•     Setting of pricing policies to maximise contribution

 

SKILLS & CAPABILITIES

Essential

•     Broad marketing knowledge with a focus on merchandising, market research and direct marketing experience

•     Good Commercial acumen & financial awareness

•     Strong analytical & Excel skills 

•     Project management skills.
