Be part of the energy transition
At DCC Energy, we’re transforming the way energy is delivered, managed and experienced across Great Britain.
Through businesses including Flogas Britain, Certas Energy and our growing Energy Management Services (EMS) platform, we support commercial, industrial and domestic customers through a broad range of energy solutions, services and technologies.
As the energy market continues to evolve, we’re investing in the people, capabilities and businesses that will help shape the future of lower carbon and integrated energy solutions across the UK.
We’re now looking for an experienced Senior Legal Counsel to join DCC Energy Great Britain on a 12 month fixed-term contract and provide strategic legal support across our diverse and growing portfolio of businesses.
How you’ll power our business as a Legal Counsel (12 Month Fixed-Term Contract, Maternity Cover)
This is an exciting opportunity to join Certas Energy's Legal and Compliance function on a 12-month fixed-term contract, providing maternity cover within a busy and highly commercial legal team. Reporting to the Senior Legal Counsel, you'll take ownership of a diverse and live caseload from day one, supporting stakeholders across the organisation on a wide range of legal and compliance matters.
This is a genuinely hands-on role where you'll provide pragmatic, commercially focused legal advice, balancing legal risk with business objectives. Working closely with the Legal & Compliance Director, wider assurance teams and colleagues across the DCC Group, you'll be empowered to make decisions confidently, manage complex legal matters independently, and help drive positive outcomes for the business.
What you’ll be doing
- Providing legal support across a broad range of disciplines including commercial contracts, regulatory compliance, consumer law, marketing and advertising, competition law, data protection, construction contracts, dispute resolution and corporate transactions.
- Drafting, reviewing and negotiating a variety of commercial agreements, including customer, supplier, service and construction contracts.
- Acting as a trusted legal adviser to stakeholders across the business, delivering practical and commercially focused advice on day-to-day legal matters.
- Managing an independent caseload, assessing legal risk and escalating strategically significant matters where appropriate.
- Managing disputes and claims, including preparing legal documentation and liaising with external legal advisers when required.
- Supporting the Customer Relations team with escalated customer complaints and dispute resolution activities.
- Designing and delivering legal and compliance training across business functions.
- Supporting mergers, acquisitions and other strategic projects through due diligence and legal documentation.
- Reviewing and updating internal policies and procedures to ensure compliance with legal and regulatory requirements.
- Supporting regulatory enquiries and investigations while keeping the business informed of legal and regulatory developments.
- Working collaboratively with colleagues across Certas Energy and the wider DCC Group to help achieve business objectives.
What we’ll need from you
- Qualified Solicitor or Barrister in England and Wales.
- Minimum 5 years’ post-qualification experience gained within private practice, in-house, or a combination of both.
- Strong commercial contracts experience, including drafting and negotiating customer and supplier agreements.
- Excellent legal analysis skills and the ability to provide clear, pragmatic recommendations that balance legal risk and commercial objectives.
- Confidence working independently and managing a varied caseload with limited supervision.
- Strong stakeholder management skills with the ability to build effective working relationships at all levels.
- Excellent organisational skills, with the ability to prioritise competing deadlines and manage multiple matters simultaneously.
- A commercially aware, solutions-focused mindset and strong attention to detail.
- Previous in-house experience and exposure to regulated sectors such as energy, utilities, construction or consumer markets would be advantageous.
- Available to start within a reasonable timeframe and commit to the full fixed-term contract period.
Why join us?
At DCC Energy Great Britain, you’ll join a business with a strong heritage, ambitious growth plans and a clear focus on supporting the energy transition.
You’ll have the opportunity to:
- Work across a diverse portfolio of market-leading energy businesses
- Support strategically important commercial and operational initiatives
- Partner closely with senior leaders across multiple business units
- Contribute to legal transformation and continuous improvement activity
- Be part of a collaborative and supportive legal team within a FTSE 100-backed organisation
